Sylvia Saves the DAY.
I wrote this story in 1992 after my volunteer position as Regional Advisor for SCBWI from 1886 to1989. And after researching and publishing my father's family tree, 'His, Her, and Ours.
I saw Sylvia Saves the DAY as a picture book with a drawn quilted spare for the 27 scenes. The picture book never happened, I stopped illustrating and sending my stories to editors. The market had dropped, and I would wait for a return opening. While waiting, I pondered why my stories did not please editors.
While lying on my couch, resting, and rereading my stories, a voice floated through my mind, "you write analogies. You need sunshine in my sky, to dig in the rich soil, so you can move on". The gardening healed my hurts about rejection." So Sylvia, the happy gardener, misses the sun who falls in Sylvia's woodpile. Curran, the wind, helps Sylvia, who saves the day, a strong matron.
Well, as all good stories go, a climax. While gardening during the cold rains in 1998, I got pneumonia and had to stop weeding.
Again lying on my couch, the voice floated through my mind, "Time for you to stand on stage and tell stories." All my life, I never volunteered to read out loud, and as RA in SCBWI always had someone else stand-up and run the meetings. I worked behind the scenes, safe, not being a man, male, he; I had no voice.
To evolving my style, I needed more education, a broader range of stories from many countries like the story I read as a 5th and 6th grader. My opportunity arrived, storytelling in 2000, then the invite 2002 to tell at the Asian Art Museum, I entered a temple of stories. I would realize why the male voice dominated in writing and stories.

L – LOVE, logical, limber, liable, lovely, lively, love, loyal, light, likeable, lucky, listens ---> LONELY
Since Li Chi and other brave warriors kept worms and serpents out of China, and after many wars, and the closing of the silk roads, comes the age of the Golden Dragon, the Song Dynasty 400 to 1400 centuries. China was very prosperous.
A young scholar had completed his training in the three perfections, poetry, art and calligraphy. Prince Yu of China, with Turtle, a best friend of the first dragon Paguo, carved the Yellow River, they designed raging rapids over the steep rocks. Prince Yu said, “Whatever fish jumps rocks becomes a dragon.” So now this young scholar is a dragon of the Golden Court of the Song Dynasty. He seeks his health, fortune, and a love he never expected.

BOOK #3, MAGIC comes to a finish!
AS IT IS NOW, MAGIC is the third book in the Elfin letters series. The village is set, the Shoppe Keepers have come and now the Villagers find out what the human lassies want as Elfin Magic, which is not at all what the Elves, Faeries, Trolls and other spirits think of as their magic.

Elfin Letters
During June 2 to August 3, 2013, once again I'm on with a writing-a-thon. This time to edit and check on the third book of Elfin Letters. The book of MAGIC between the realms in OakGrove Yard. The letters are from my granddaugther and her three friends wanting to know magic. Of course, elves, faeries, and other spirits know all about magic, or do they? Wish me the best and if you want to sponsor a writer, here I am. Come join Clarion Foundation Write-a-Thon and write your story. Clarion Foundation

Elfin Miners
Grandma Bobbie's grandsons invited elfin miners to their yard. The boys painted wee houses and hung them in a plum tree. Elfin MacTagh came for Osellio; MacTagh brought his wife and he loves to fish. Osellio make him a fishing rod and a raft to float on the pond to catch fish. Pochie's elf is Elfin Jangle McFett, who is a warrior and travels. MacTagh and McFett loved their name changes, and can remain anonymous. Pochie painted his house green and put on white circles for openings to other realms. Osellio painted his house blue and put on black so Elfin MacTagh can hide. MacTagh and McFett are miners with the Elfin McDonnell and kaJ Dancy team, CareTakers of the Earth's Jewels and Ores. The elves can slide through the strings any time to help with the charting of the mines. Later that day, Pochie saw a light that is the opening for the travel, the small circle glowed on the wall inside the playing room.

The Elves, Grandma Bobbie thoughts!
Looking out beyond my gate, I saw two elf looking characters today, that look like the elfin miners. One fell off his bike driving over the garbage can and other one older walking up the street. They looked scrubby and scuffled and had elfin beards and long brown hair flying. I always wonder what the young elves looked like, and today these two on my street looked liked elves only younger than the elderly Ole Elf I saw in Colorado at the gambling casino sitting by the slot machine. The young men on the street were much younger and a more colorful. The one who fall off his bike, could be young kaJ, the miner only looking tired, a little dirty and ruffled. Not Ole Uncle Elf Clyde who left Iceland and knows the Nordic Gods (Thor, Odin, etc.). Ole Elf Clyde looks more like a conventional elf: short and fat, a Santa's helper, or a keeper of the pots of gold at the ends of the rainbow, which one can never catch even in the fastest of cars or airplanes.

Elfn and Faery Homes Repaired
Today was a busy day for Grandma Bobbie, as she started painting the Troll houses for Harian's family. OH, MY, was Harian on her. He wanted his house brown. When she finally found the brown paint he was fine. He did not want the yellow snowflakes on his house. "No way!" He stomped around causing houses to topple all over Grandma Bobbie's painting studio. Bobbie told Harian, "I have no white paint." Harion yelled, "You just paint what you wanted." Harion is a large giant. Bobbie responded, "Harion, to remind everyone you are from Iceland, I use the snowflakes. Yellow is power." Finally he did like the yellow snowflakes. Then he argued, "NO! Not a purple door." "I'll repaint it tomorrow." "And no glitter!" "Harian, kaJ said the glitter is a substance for the magic to create the inside like you want." Finally Maude, Harion's wife, liked the purple glitter and said, "Harian, the doors stays purple with the glitter.' And to Bobbie, "Please, put the glass windows around the top so we can watch the bridge and house. And yes, maybe a skylight."And so it was settled, a brown house, yellow snowflakes with windows, and a purple glittered door.

More on painting the Elfin, Faery and Troll Homes

From Old Elfin Man:
Almost Summer, and the homes are still not located. The Elves and Merchants camping in the bottom yard among the poppies. King kaJ and Queen Emma Fae of the village are so upset that their anxiousness causes a late bloom for the poppies, which upset the Poppy Faeries. I must say it is nice to see all the children playing and have a time in the lower gardens camping is always fun for me, loved it since gold rush days. The dancing, singing, and meals around the Faery Circle are heart and soul filling. The love rounds out.
Grandma Bobbie finally got the houses varnished and ready to repaint. Only to have an argument with King kaJ, the KING using his power. Grandma Bobbie wants to split the village and put the homes around into the different gardens leaving the Merchant shops under the bridge. The Elfin homes to be put here and there in the flowers of the upper and lower gardens. Aunt Millie and Uncle Olaf agreed with Grandma Bobbie and their homes will hang on the brick wall in the backyard. Although Aunt Millie demanded the School and the GuestHouse come with her as she is the manager of both. kaJ did agree, not wanting a fight with the Elders. And the Trolls liked the idea of hanging their homes on the Grandma Bobbie's house.
kaJ,still demands that the Elves stay as one large community under the bridge. He is not a flower faery Bobbie explains she wants the children in her realm to find the homes here and there in the flowers. No, kaJ wants no names on the houses and only one mailbox for letters. While she painted, kaJ rang the chime over and over to agitate Grandma Bobbie, who was so tied of hearing the clatter she tied the the chimes together. kaJ better calm down, the other elves will be more than upset.

Elfin, Faery and Troll Folks Relocated
As for me, the Old Elfin Man McDonnell, I've been in the yard since coming with Elfin Clyde from the Gold fields in 1909. My home stays in its secret place in the orchids in the lower yard. The Trolls also hang around the yard here and there, more or less camping out. The Winter's three huge storms frighted Maude and murmurs held that Harian just might return to his relatives on the Northern shores of Norway. His 14 children refused to go saying they were born here and love the yard. They stay on the deck roof climbing and hiding in the large Redwood trees. Harian's children have a good time wander all over the city. The Pixies in the backyard loved all the rebuilding of paths and patio and played their various tricks on the Grandma Bobbie and her friends helping. The Taryn Faeries had no thoughts of going anywhere, they dance in the circle and stayed in the flowers that bloomed in the gardens. The Lachlan Faeries of the Pond were not concerned when the Pond was repaired. Each rain filled it again, there are now goldfish and plants.
So now Grandma Bobbie has all the houses varnished inside and out and kaJ starts his arguement . . .
